We are looking for a dedicated Histology Technician like you to be
a part of our team.Job Summary and QualificationsYou Will:
- Prepare and process specimens for gross and microscopic
examination and diagnosis by a pathologist. May assist in the
preparation of frozen sections of surgical specimens for
microscopic examination by a pathologist.
- Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen
processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy,
slide preparation, routine and special stains in accordance with
department procedures.
- Assure positive sample, block and slide identification
throughout the sample/slide preparation process
- Prepare and maintain solutions for stains and histology
procedures. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and
instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per
department schedule.
- Utilize independent judgement and problem solving skills to
ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment
performance. Troubleshoots to and takes appropriate corrective
action to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely manner for
resolution.
- Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and
documentation of quality control and quality assurance for
instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.You Should
Have:
- High School Diploma AND minimum two years of histology
experience
- OR High School Diploma AND completion of an accredited program
in Histotechnology
- OR Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology AND one year of
histology experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science,
Biology or Chemistry
- National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP)
required
- State license where required (CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MT, NV, NY,
ND, RI, WV)
- Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to
disease processes
- Ability to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine
staining of samples
- Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections
with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality
for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist
- Demonstrates good technique in the cutting, embedding,
orientation and staining of specimens
- General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory
compliance requirements
- Excellent communication, team work and organizational skills.
