Job Description

The Lead Steward will assist with both set-up and teardown for weddings, parties, and other events held at Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, a flexible schedule, and a willingness to learn about planning and executing events.
Perform all tasks outlined on banquet event orders, daily set-up sheet, and daily cleaning schedules.
Assist in the coordination and delivery of all items needed prior to and during special events.
Perform and practice the proper lifting, moving and transporting of equipment and tools.
Utilize proper cleaning supplies for equipment and fixtures, and ensure proper techniques are utilized in the cleaning of such equipment.
Maintain clean receiving areas, downstairs storage areas, elevators, and dumpster areas.
Maintain an organized and hazard-free work area at all times and post the appropriate safety materials (i.e., wet floor signs) as required.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire codes and policies.
Remove trash and place it in designated containers.
Ensure a high standard of customer service and satisfaction.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Lead Steward supervises temporary staff and part time stewards, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The duties listed above are not all inclusive. The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

Qualifications

Work Requirements and Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D preferred
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Positive attitude and strong commitment to client satisfaction
Ability to lift up to and including 50 pounds (tables, chairs, etc.)
Must be able to work flexible hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays)
Must be able to stand or walk for varying lengths of time, including long periods
