Assistant Attorney General - Medicaid FraudOffice of the Tennessee Attorney General and ReporterThe Tennessee Office of the Attorney General is seeking an attorney to join its Medicaid Fraud and Integrity Division (MFID) in Nashville to work on civil Medicaid fraud investigations and litigation as an Assistant Attorney General. MFID enforces the Tennessee Medicaid False Claims Act on behalf of Tennessee and its Medicaid agency, TennCare. MFID cases are litigated civilly in state and federal courts and include qui tam or whistleblower cases that are often litigated jointly with the United States.Primary Activities of the PositionAAGs participate in all phases of Medicaid fraud civil investigations and litigation against health care providers. Primary responsibilities include:-- Drafting subpoenas and information requests to gather evidence;-- Interviewing potential witnesses and taking testimony by deposition;-- Reviewing documentary evidence, including medical records;-- Reviewing data analysis evidence related to health care providers' submission of claims to TennCare for reimbursement for services rendered;-- Working with physicians, medical billing coders, and other expert consultants and witnesses;-- Coordinating with other state and federal agencies and enforcers in joint investigations and litigation;-- Analyzing all relevant evidence and formulating legal theories;-- Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs and other court documents;-- Arguing motions and participating in trials; and-- Negotiating settlementsMinimum Qualifications: -- Juris Doctorate required-- Tennessee bar admission or ability to apply for admission without examination-- Strong oral and written skills-- Two or more years civil litigation experiencePreferred Experience-- Health care law experience-- Familiarity with the reimbursement processes for medical services-- Negotiation of settlements Pursuant to the State of Tennessee's Workplace Discrimination and Harassment policy, the State is firmly committed to the principle of fair and equal employment opportunities for its citizens and strives to protect the rights and opportunities of all people to seek, obtain, and hold employment without being subjected to illegal discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
