Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse in the Adult Emergency department
applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of
patients, including patient and family education and continuum of
care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family
information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing
patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities
according to the Board of Nursing standards.A typical shift for our
nurses includes participating in a team shift report prior to
receiving their primary assignment. We work within a pod
environment with each nurse typically having a 3:1 patient/nurse
ratio. Our department utilizes a team approach to perform primary
nursing with the assistance of Paramedics, AEMTs and Care Partners.
Our nurses encounter a diverse patient population every day, with
assignments ranging from the acute and critically ill to non-acute
and fast track patients. Other assignments include trauma and
triage.Department Unit/Summary:The Adult Emergency Room is the
Level 1 Trauma Center for Middle Tennessee with 88 treatment areas
including four trauma bays. We are one of the busiest emergency
rooms in the country and see 69,000 patients annually. We have the
ability to quickly diagnose through our use of two CT scanners and
an x-ray machine for the Adult ER. We are a Comprehensive Stroke
Center, Accredited Chest Pain Center, and the Designated Level 1
Burn Center for the region.$20,000 SIGN ON BONUS for eligible new
hires (former employees must be separated from Vanderbilt
University Medical Center for a period of more than 12 months to be
eligible). $15,000 relocation stipend for eligible new
hires.Position Shift:
- Typically our Registered Nurses work six 12-hour shifts per 2
weeks in the emergency room.
- Currently we also have a requirement for Registered Nurses who
can work five 12-hour shifts per 2 weeks.
- We currently have both day shift (7A to 7P if eligible; based
on years of experience) and night shift (7P to 7A) available, which
includes evening, night, and weekend layered shift
differentials.
- The weekend requirements are to work a Saturday and Sunday
shift every 3rd weekend.
- Rotating Holiday Schedules.Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and
implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs
across the continuum.
- Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's
care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
- Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's
progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to
ensure effective outcomes.
- Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy
environment.

Position QualificationsRequired:
- One year of individual or combined nursing experience in an
emergency department (ED) or intensive care unit (ICU)Preferred:
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- TNCC, ATCN, CEN, CCRN, EMT and EMT-P are all highly desirable
