Nurse Practitioner - Geriatric Psychiatry This outpatient mental health nurse practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team in geriatric mental health in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Vanderbilt Center for Cognitive Medicine and The Vanderbilt Memory and Aging Clinic. This role will blend outpatient clinical management of older adults with mental health problems with research focused on the management of older adults with depressive disorders and memory disorders. Responsibilities will include working with patients in outpatient clinics and also with participants in research studies. In the clinic setting, the NP may be required to perform some coordination between inpatient care discharges and outpatient follow up. In research studies, the NP will be asked to conduct medical and psychiatric evaluations, follow-up assessments, and study evaluations. The NP may also be asked to help coordinate transitions from research back to clinical care. The outpatient mental health NP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education, has a responsibility for ensuring adherence to diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, and ensures an environment of high quality care. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Training in research procedures and the responsible conduct of research will be provided. Department Summary: The Department of Psychiatry provides inpatient and outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental illnesses. Outpatient services include the Vanderbilt Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (VAPOC), the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (CAPOC), and several school-based programs. Basic Qualifications: This position requires a Master's degree in Nursing and board certification as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Prior experience with or interest in working with older adults is preferred. License Required: Current Tennessee RN license and TN APN certificate with certificate of fitness to prescribe. Must be eligible for DEA license. Additional Information: This is a full-time position; primary duties are Monday through Friday 8AM-5PM, with the possibility of on-call duty in rotation with other staff.
