SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Vice President of Engineering will be responsible for developing a world class engineering organization. This person will coach and develop the current team of -60 engineers and continue to grow it. As the company develops and launches a series of next-generation consumer products, she/he will be responsible for providing the technical and business leadership to support Asurion's growth. Asurion believes strongly in close collaboration between engineering, product, design, and data teams to build products and services that customers want and meet their needs. The best candidates will embrace that culture of cross-team collaboration and also demonstrate it at their level ? working closely with other senior leaders in shaping our strategy and execution. The role requires a forward-thinking executive who, by nature, loves technology and loves leading people ? and will help us adapt and evolve as technology and customer needs constantly change. Specific Responsibilities: * Set and articulate the technical vision and direction for many teams working to deliver next generation products * Embrace and execute a lean development framework ? quickly turning ideas into MVPs, measuring the effect on KPIs, and pivoting or persevering based on results * Create a culture of fast and iterative technical assessment, implementation, and refinement / replacement. Not tied to any one solution, always identifying new or better ways to solve problems. * Work closely with Product and Design counterparts to align on vision, ensure resources are appropriately skilled and mapped to achieve that vision, and then deliver on that vision * Identify the processes and technology that will drive increased velocity, efficiency, and ultimately, better outcomes * Build solid working relationships with IT Operations, Security, and Enterprise Architecture teams to insure the team delivers secure, reliable and high performing products * Use communication and collaboration tools to provide a high-level of visibility and transparency around KPIs, design, backlog and results to senior leadership and other teams * Provide coaching and development for all direct reports, while helping the entire team grow and learn * Support and enhance the Asurion culture within the engineering organization * Recruit, motivate, mentor and lead a high-caliber team KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: * Hands on technologist with deep and broad technical capability, and an innate passion for technology * Technical credibility with the engineering team and a proven ability to productively challenge current thinking * Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Business, or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered) * 10 years of experience in engineering management positions with a focus on delivering Enterprise grade products to Consumers CRITICAL COMPETENCIES / CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS: * Stellar organizational leadership and engineering management skills overseeing sizable staffs (50 plus) where tight collaboration with design, product and other organizations was critical to success * Proven background assessing, top-grading and building world-class engineering organizations during periods of organizational evolution * Evaluates key technical challenges and directs development of new, innovative solutions * Creates and encourages a healthy supportive/inclusive development culture where collaboration across teams and the sharing of ideas and solutions is the daily norm. * Employs a disciplined engineering approach (leverages best practices and technologies, articulates solutions, can lead and guide others through technical design and development) * Develops and Drives technical thought leadership * Creates strategic partnerships with other Tech leads * Ability to effectively sponsor/manage multiple software projects, and to take ownership of complex development efforts. * Ability to identify, prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines PERSONAL / PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES: * Low Ego.
