Job Description:
Position SummaryThe Risk and Insurance Manager is responsible
for modeling the 3 Company values of Compassion, Integrity, and
Excellence, and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6
Pillars of success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for
upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive
working relationships within the company, among all departments,
and all external stakeholders. The Risk and Insurance Manager is
responsible for overseeing insurance and risk management program
for the company. This responsibility includes oversight of claims
management and the annual renewal process. The Risk and Insurance
Manager will work with other functional areas (e.g. - Human
Resources, Compliance, etc.) to streamline the risk management
program across the company.
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Oversight of claims management in coordination with external
insurance broker.
- Responsible for completion of insurance policy renewals,
included all related analysis and support and coordination with the
Company's external insurance broker.
- Oversight of the risk management practices and policies for the
Company and relevant subsidiaries.
- Coordinate data requests and insurance filings with all
external parties.
- Act as liaison with operating management on risk and insurance
issues.
- Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over
insurance and risk matters.
- Analyze and classify risks as to frequency and potential
severity, and measures financial impact of risk on company.
- Prepare operational and risk reports for management
analysis.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement corrective action against
risks.
- Direct insurance negotiations and obtain premium invoicing to
track current status and ensure accurate and timely payments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
- At least five (5) years of direct insurance and risk management
experience required.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
Skills
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and
divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percentage.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports,
business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from
leaders, colleagues, investors, and external parties. Strong
written and verbal communications.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write,
and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy.
Understanding of risk assessment practices and claims management.
Understanding of the technical aspects of risk management and
insurance protocols. Understanding of internal control concepts and
experience in applying them to plan, perform, manage and report on
the evaluation of various business processes/areas/functions.
Ability to work independently, with limited required direction and
guidance, and provide appropriate direction to other risk
management team members. Exhibit leadership skills needed to sell
ideas and obtain management buy-in for constructive change.
Experience in performing multiple projects and working with varying
team members. Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and Word.
Experience with performing basic data analysis.Physical Demands and
