Full Job DescriptionAbout the RoleAs the head of communications and marketing, you will lead our global external communications and marketing efforts aimed at raising our profile among the leadership of the top 50 global insurers and attracting new opportunities to acquire legacy insurance portfolios. You will craft and deliver proactive communications and marketing campaigns, drive awareness of brand, products and services, public policy positions, executive thought leadership, and general industry leadership. You will do this by by securing strategic press coverage in relevant national and industry publications and conferences and developing marketing strategies and supporting collateral. The person in this role must possess superb strategic, collaborative, and consultative skills along with creativity and a marketer's advocacy instincts. Reporting to the general counsel, you will have the opportunity to:Lead and grow enterprise-wide, corporate media relations initiatives and digital presence by crafting compelling narratives that support business goals and objectives.Conceive, coordinate, and execute marketing and public relations campaigns to generate earned media and marketing collateral that highlight our brand, purpose, expertise, and critical role contributing to the resilience of the global insurance industry.Amplify our stories and content via our external digital platforms, corporate website, and select social media.Write, design, and produce marketing messages and materials aimed at our target prospects, including web content, advertising, and brochures that align with our public relations campaigns.Develop programs to position our executives as insightful insurance industry leaders on appropriate social platforms and identify and secure executive speaking engagements at the key annual conferences attended by our clients and prospects.Maintain our dynamic external website to articulate what our company is, what it does, and what makes it unique among the companies that acquire legacy books of insurance policies.Produce for our website a steady flow of high-value, insightful content and marketing messages designed to interest the audience we need to reach to generate new business, with sufficient quality to motivate frequent return visits.Lead and manage the development of press strategies and public relations initiatives including writing news releases, press kits, talking points for media interviews, FAQs, press statements, and crisis response messages.Develop strong relationships with editors and reporters at the trade and mainstream financial media outlets closely followed by our clients and prospects.Develop communications strategies aimed at keeping our policyholders informed and confident in our ability to serve their needs throughout the life of their contracts.Develop and maintain a public awareness of our philanthropic activities.Lead and coordinate communication initiatives with external public relations agencies representing the business.Collaborate with Human Resources to produce messages designed to attract and retain talent.Provide media prep and training for our executives meeting with journalists to relay messages both proactively and reactively.Organize all materials related to the public relations function (editorial calendars, media lists, press releases, reporter research).Coordinate all targeted publication listings and rankings reports.Oversee the gathering of media and relevant research coverage and storage of clips and files as needed.Design, maintain, and implement, when needed, a crisis communications playbook, including conducting regular exercises to increase crisis readiness.What We Are Looking ForAbout 12 years of corporate communications and marketing experience in a strategic advisory capacity, including eight years of hands-on external communications, marketing, and digital media experienceBachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or related fieldDirect life and nonlife insurance industry experience and deep knowledge of complex industry dynamics involving underwriting, claims, and investingStrong financial media relations and marketing expertise, including designing and implementing campaigns and tracking impactCreative and original thinking, a willingness to propose new ideas without fear of rejectionStrong communication skills including writing news releases, speeches, and marketing collateral like brochures and backgroundersHigh-level contacts and a proven track record of media generation at leading insurance trade publications and mainstream financial media including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Bloomberg News, Reuters, CNBC, and other business broadcast outletsAbility to position our narrative, marketing messages, and executives in key publications and conferencesDeep understanding of the power of earned media in overall marketing.Agency background/experience preferred, including experience working and coordinating with outside communications and marketing agenciesJournalism background a significant plusFlexible work mentality, travel as needed, and willingness to be available off hours in times of crisis as neededA collaborative team player, consultative, confident decision-maker, self-motivated, and able to drive the editorial/media generation process forward in an organization that takes on a wide range of complex risksInterpersonal communication skills vital to work continuously, effectively, and thoughtfully with senior executives across the business
