The Ideal CandidateAs Genesco enters its next phase of growth, the Vice President, Strategy will drive key strategic initiatives and priorities, collaborate on end-to-end strategic planning, and quarterback M&A activities to deliver the Company's vision and long-term growth targets.Genesco's Vice President, Strategy is responsible for (1) developing and executing corporate strategy for the Company and (2) facilitating development of growth strategies for Genesco's operating divisions, with the aim of significantly growing the company's -$2.2 billion revenue base. Corporate strategy involves a heavy focus on maximizing the potential of the Company's retail and branded platforms, including pursuing synergistic acquisitions to enhance growth. Growth strategies for Genesco's operating divisions encompass a wide range of possibilities, including geographic, gender, channel and category expansion, as well as continued omnichannel/digital growth.This is a highly visible position within the company with the potential to have tremendous impact in driving profitable growth. This role interacts regularly with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, operating division presidents, and other members of the senior management team and Genesco's board of directors. The Vice President, Strategy also collaborates with personnel in operating divisions using a consultative approach to develop and drive company-wide and division-specific growth strategies.The Vice President, Strategy plays a pivotal role in the development of the Company's long-range strategic plan and the one-year operating plan from a strategy perspective, working closely with operating division personnel and Genesco's Chief Financial Officer and the VP, Financial Planning & Analysis (who lead the planning process from a financial perspective).Key success factors include strong knowledge of strategy development and effective execution of strategic initiatives, relevant experience with acquisitions, the ability to collaborate and partner successfully with operating divisions, enthusiasm for working in an entrepreneurial and decentralized environment, skill at communicating effectively at many different organizational levels, the drive to lead by education and example and an unyielding desire to achieve greater business impact.. How You Will Make an ImpactEvolve and adapt Genesco's Corporate growth strategy and drive strategic direction by analyzing on-going shifts in consumers, competitors, industry dynamics and other factors.Lead development and prioritization of relevant company-wide growth initiatives (e.g., omnichannel/digital growth, margin expansion).Identify and lead the evaluation of potential new business opportunities (i.e., market evaluation, value proposition, economic analysis, business case development).Facilitate cross-functional teams and lead the full transaction lifecycle (i.e., mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures) from strategy formulation, target identification, business case development and term sheet preparation, to due diligence, valuation and negotiations, through integration and post-integration analysis. Act as the "quarterback"-- - for the process, overseeing coordination of all internal/external work stream teams and reporting to senior management and division leaders.Provide strategic thought leadership by proactively identifying, surfacing, and framing potential strategic opportunities, working with the SVP, Chief Strategy and Digital Officer, the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, operating division presidents, and other members of the senior management teamLead the creation of the long-range strategic plan and the one-year operating plan from a strategy perspective. Continuously improve strategy development efforts. Analyze plan output.Participate in operating division strategic and operating plan development to enhance focus on growth activities, give guidance and influence outcomes. Collaborate with division personnel to shape analysis and recommendations. Ensure effective execution. Directly support specific operating division strategic initiatives as needed.Lead ad hoc strategy and business development projects and other corporate initiatives as needed. Operate at a tactical, strategic, and operational level as needed, handling the oversight of projects that do not neatly fit within the current organizational chart or that fall between departments or leadership areas of responsibility.Present strategy/M&A updates to the Company's senior management and/or Board of Directors, as appropriate.Experience and Skills You'll Need to HaveBachelor's degree in Business, Finance or a related field.MBA from top business school or comparable graduate degree (preferred).10-15+ years of business experience; experience within the retail, omnichannel/digital, and/or fashion sectors strongly preferred.Relevant experience in management/strategy consulting, investment banking, private equity, corporate development, corporate strategy or other related roles.Proven record of delivering high impact results in the areas of corporate or business unit strategy, growth initiatives, new business strategies and/or acquisitions.Key CompetenciesA successful candidate will have the following characteristics:Strategic and Conceptual Thinking: Ability to extract critical details out of complex data, identify trends and develop insights/hypotheses on where and how the Company should evolve in the future. Outstanding knowledge and understanding of financial statements and financial reporting.Acquisition Experience: Knowledge of and experience with acquisition evaluation, including target identification, strategic fit and financial assessment, business case development and valuation methodology. Experience with financial modeling, e.g., in long range planning, assumption setting, M&A valuation model development, scenario development.Superior Facilitation and Communication Skills: Ability to effectively work across and through the organization. Skilled in achieving consensus and buy-in to make decisions and get things done.
